If you’ve read Proust Said #11, devoted largely to the arrival of the Aquarian Age, you may be snorting. After all, I was clear that the Aquarian Age was supposed to be so good, with all that harmony and understanding and so on. I published that issue before Kamala even entered the race, and lefties got deliriously joyful about our first female president, a champion for the underdog and an advocate for joy. And look what we got instead.
I’d like to turn the attention of all snorting readers to the last paragraph on page 5:
“Fortunately, the planets are coming into
propitious alignment, and in the coming
years, a lot is going to change. We are
seeing the signs of a better future. But first,
the rot must be unearthed, the malefactors
defeated, and a better world, conceived by
visionaries, rises from the bile.”
We are, unfortunately, in the bile stage. That’s when the rot comes into full Technicolor view, and we can’t not look at it. We can’t let it fester where only the informed know we’re being conned and heading for a precipice. It’s got to be obvious to everyone, including the previously uninformed. They’ll figure it out the hard way, through medical bankruptcy, losing a house to climate change that the owner could no longer get insured, losing a loved one because of abortion laws or deportation, losing life savings to a crypto con artist, not having a labor force to plant and harvest crops or work in restaurant kitchens, having fewer real freedoms, et cetera. But lefties don’t want anybody to learn that way, preferring listening to reason, which obviously hasn’t been a reliable tactic. As Proust said:
“The facts of life do not penetrate to the sphere in which our beliefs are cherished… they are powerless to destroy them; an avalanche of miseries and maladies…will not make it lose faith.” —Swann’s Way
Eventually, even the most brain dead of non-cultist voters will have to take a long hard look at their candidate and his minions and admit that inflation is worse with tariffs—much worse; eggs are still too expensive and hard to get, because of bird flu, which they’ll believe is a hoax until it kills us. They’ll have to come to terms with the stunning realization that child sex crimes seem overwhelmingly committed by clergymen and youth counselors who are also right wingers.
United Healthcare has made so many people mad that the CEO’s murder was a warning shot against the bile so rich that it floats to the top. A recent poll at the University of Chicago showed that respondents assigned plenty of blame for the killing on the insurance industry. Sixty-nine percent of respondents blame the murder on the healthcare system itself, with slightly different emphases on issues including costs and the egregious profits companies make by denying them. A joint enemy has been established and a fresh line of thinking creeps into MAGA World, especially the younger ones: maybe it’s not the lefties after all.
Our shadow President-Elect used his egregious wealth to influence the election with propaganda based on sheer lies. The richest people who control all our mainstream media and communications have kissed the ring for tax purposes, preferential treatment, and psychological inclination. They are also scared, since their fortunes escalate exponentially, while homelessness has gone up, so much of it because of climate change disasters,in the richest country in the world, over the last year. If Mangione, a highly educated and financially secure person, could be that mad about the corporate ravaging of Americans’ well-being, how many others are there who are even more enraged every day?
The right-wingers are trying to blame increased homelessness on immigration, but in fact, we’ve had fewer people crossing the Mexican border in 2024 than we’ve had in four years, according to WOLA, a nonprofit advocating for human rights in the Americas. Instead, we’re getting immigrants through H-1B, the legal avenue for employers to import foreign workers for high-end jobs at pathetic wages, a kind of indentured servitude. Keeping those kinds of immigrants is the hill our shadow president swears to die on, and Ramaswamy says they’re essential because Americans are too stupid to get jobs. The election was won on stopping immigration, but they don’t plan to stop it at all, insulting the base in the process by still admitting non-white people. It’s not immigrants who are the problem. Experts repeatedly say it’s the cost of housing that’s increasing homelessness, and we know this is true in San Francisco, where there are currently 61K empty and overpriced units.
The rot, weirdly enough, may be cleaned up by the very voters responsible for rot getting back in The White House, now that their hero has shown his manipulative sleaze. Seniors, celebrating Biden’s $35 cap on expensive medications, aren’t going to like paying Big Pharma prices again. Farmers won’t like having no one to work their fields. Veterans, deprived of quality care when the VA gets monetized, will be ready to take up arms again. Nobody will like the closure of FEMA when their state has an emergency, or the increasingly high costs of everything. The uninformed watchers of Fox, who now claim they weren’t told this was going to happen, may realize their folly. The younger generation, like so many younger generations, will rebel against the joyless beliefs of their elders, and the Aquarian Age can begin.

We can expedite the real start of the Aquarian Age with small gestures that add up. We don’t have to give oligarchs our money or our data. There are much better alternatives to for-profit social media, like Vivaldi, Mastodon, and the FediVerse, run by idealists for the common good, and not to make founders billionaires that know every single thing about us. Clever tech people could come up with options that don’t data mine and never, never, never use AI. And although this is hard, because we’ve become lazy, we could stop buying on Amazon and support local business. We can stop shopping in places owned by monsters, which requires knowing who gets our dollars, but it’s worth it. We made these people billionaires, and now they’re using the money we gave them to elect candidates who’ll cut their taxes and slash benefits to the rest of us.
It’s time to cut their profits. This is economic resistance that involves no violence. These people will never be poor. We’re not hurting them, we’re just supporting better options for the common good, and when the groundswell of positive resistance to the oligarchy becomes popular, the Aquarian Age can actually begin.
